Kent Richardson
Eagle Scout Project 2013

On May 4th, 2013, Kent Richardson completed his Eagle Scout project by installing two boot brush stations and clearing a hillside dominated by Oriental bittersweet, Amur honeysuckle, and several other invasive alien plants species, all in Lake Accotink Park.

Boot brush stations like these are an initiative of the Fairfax County Park Authority to remind park visitors to avoid the spread of invasive alien plant species seeds on our clothing, pets, and outdoor equipment.

The area cleared was the site of a planting of native trees several years ago, but had been overtaken by invasive alien vines and shrubs which inhibited the growth of native species. By rehabilitating this planting site, Kent’s volunteers from Troop 887 freed the native vegetation to once again have the opportunity to reestablish itself.
