Let the Fairfax City Council and Northern Virginia Transportation Authority know how you feel about paving our forests!

The City Council has voted not to proceed with the proposed John Mason Trail in the City of Fairfax. It was a tough decision, but the right decision for our forests and for our future. All of our streets should be made safer for bike traffic and pedestrians instead of making our dwindling natural heritage safe for asphalt. Please let the City Council members know you appreciate the course they have chosen.

Thank you for the Council vote September 28th not to proceed with the John Mason Trail.

We recognize this was a hard decision and required a level of courage to turn away from an on-the-books plan on the cusp of funding.  We applaud that courage.

The City of Fairfax, as with all the rest of humanity, will now face more such decisions, and harder ones, as we deal with the responsibility to truly and verifiably fulfill our obligations to our local environment, the Chesapeake Bay, and above all, to our climate future.

In this context, we ask once again for reconsideration of the Pickett Road Connector and the George Snyder Trail and redirecting them to on-street Neighborways.

The principle of connectedness everywhere should apply, for no decision can be made in isolation without examination of consequences present and future, intended or unintended.
