Monster Mushrooms

Attack of the monster mushrooms along the Flag Run tributary!

A recent occurrence of impressive Giant puffball Calvatia gigantea mushrooms along the Flag Run tributary of Accotink Creek. Calvatia is from Latin, meaning bald head or skull, thus the name aptly means "giant bald skull". These specimens are size of a human head, but others over a meter wide are reportedly not uncommon.
