Death of a Swallow

Fisherman, take it home! The sad and macabre end of a cliff swallow, tangled in discarded fishing line and caught dangling under the Little River Turnpike bridge over Accotink Creek. A small colony of swallows has nested under this bridge for years, delighting passersby with their graceful gliding flight over the water and the marvel of their tidy nests constructed of balls of mud. Or delighting almost everyone, it seems, for sadly we have seen recent signs of rock throwing directed at the nests. - July 31, 2014

Ugly end to a beautiful creature...
...left twisting in the wind...
...a poignant reminder to dispose of trash responsibly.
