| February 24
1:00 pm am - 2:30 pm.
Kutner Park, 3901 Jermantown Road, in Fairfax
Join the Friends of Accotink Creek and vernal pool expert Mike Hayslett for a visit to the Kutner Park vernal pool, a wetlands restoration project created in collaboration with Lands and Waters, Lanier Middle School, and the City of Fairfax, with funding from a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant.
Mike is conducting an inventory of vernal pools in Fairfax County, as part of an initiative by the Fairfax County Park Authority. Vernal pools are seasonal wetlands, rare ecological features that provide essential habitat for a variety of living things, including frogs and salamanders. They are vulnerable to a variety of threats associated with human impact, and this inventory will support efforts to monitor and protect them.
Do you have a favorite, hidden vernal pool? Let Mike know at drop-in interviews this weekend, or at email@example.com
