Brookfield Pond newly restored, with floating wetlands
Brookfield Park is located in Springfield, contiguous with the larger Lake Accotink Park. The dam retaining it's original farm pond was not up to standard. Deterioration had reached the point of increasing seepage through the embankment, threatening dam failure. Restoration work began in 2014 to stabilize the dam and add features to improve sediment control and water quality. Innovative features include use of pervious pavement and floating wetlands. - Posted January 1, 2016
